How Often Should You Get a Haircut

One of the most common questions we hear at UPTOWN Barbers is "how often should I come in?" The answer depends on a few factors, but here is a general guide based on what we see across our three Sydney CBD locations.

By Haircut Style

Skin Fades and Zero Fades Every two to three weeks. Fades grow out quickly because the contrast between the faded sides and the longer top becomes visible fast. If you want to stay sharp, two weeks is ideal.

Classic Men's Haircuts Every three to four weeks. A traditional clipper and scissor cut has more forgiveness as it grows out. Four weeks is comfortable for most gents, but three weeks keeps it looking crisp.

Scissor Cuts and Longer Styles Every four to six weeks. Longer styles take more time to show growth, so you can stretch the interval.

Buzz Cuts and Crew Cuts Every two to three weeks. Short, uniform cuts show growth quickly, especially around the ears and neckline.

By Hair Type

Thick Hair Tends to grow out bulky and lose shape faster. Lean toward the shorter end of the recommended interval.

Fine Hair Can often stretch an extra week since growth is less noticeable. However, regular cuts help maintain volume and body.

Curly Hair Curls can disguise growth, but the shape of the cut deteriorates over time. Every three to four weeks keeps curly styles looking intentional rather than overgrown.

Our Recommendation

Barber tip: Set a recurring reminder on your phone for your haircut day. We see it all the time: blokes wait until they hate their hair, then scramble for a same day booking. Stay ahead of it.

Choose your next visit around the shape you want to maintain, your preferences and your schedule. Check the available barber and time on Fresha and complete the booking confirmation there.

Visit us at The Rocks, St James Arcade, or the Dymocks Building. Our experienced Sydney barbers will help you find the right schedule for your style.
